Skins: On Land and On Seas I depict some of the endangered species - 2 of the species of Rafflesia ( Pricei and Keithii), 2 species of turle (Green and Leatherback) and Whale Shark. The technique of my work is "batik" using hot wax and dyes, an indigenous art in South East Asia. My fabric is 100% Indian raw silk. I hope that with my art, I am able to highlight the plight of the depleting population of these endangered species, otherwise we won't see them any more. Local pick the buds of the Rafflesia for medicinal use. They pick Leatherback turtle eggs for food like there is no tomorrow. Green Turtles are killed for its beautiful shell and meat for food. And the sharks for its fins. Hope these killings will be the things of the past and our future generation will enjoy beauty of these endangered species.
