A gentle meditation on loneliness, isolation and depression, seen through the eyes of our household pets. Using everyday domestic scenes alongside the anthropomorphic power of an animal subject, the project uses the symbolism of a caged or trapped small animal to show that we are not alone. It hopes to offer support and understanding to those who struggle to articulate these challenging emotional problems. Whilst much has been said and shown about mental health, this series hope to present these problems in a fresh and engaging way, and encourage others to express how they are feeling.

Gavin is a freelance photographer based in Edinburgh, working throughout the UK and beyond. Alongside his freelance work, he is currently studying towards a BA in Professional Photography. He trained as a classical and jazz musician at London’s Guildhall School of Music, before moving to Paris as an artisan baker, working with leading French boulangerie Eric Kayser. His photographic work is as diverse as his background, bringing together many creative elements in his work. He draws particular inspiration from the art, design and photography that he was exposed to during his time in Paris.
