    Creating a shelter from the challenging climate conditions along the coast, as well as an observatory for appreciating the beauty of both land and sea: this was the concept that the architect had in mind when designing Villa Austevoll, a fascinating retreat for a family on the island of Selbjorn. As agreed with the clients, the building had to be unusual, modern and sculptural while having the lightest possible impact upon the natural setting. Saunders decided to lift the house above the landscape, to take advantage of the hillside side and the views that it offered in all directions.
