Beijing bird series-Red-billed Blue Magpie
Red-billed Blue Magpie are a common bird species in Beijing.
Some people believe that the red billed blue magpie is the messenger of the Queen Mother in Chinese mythology, the Blue Bird, which is the predecessor of the Phoenix and a divine auspicious thing.
This work is a watercolor painting on Arches watercolor paper, rather than a traditaional Chinese painting. I used realistic painting techniques for the Magpie in the foreground, while I incorporated traditional Chinese style expression techniques into the background, depicting the plants and mountains of Beijing.
