The blue whale species is the pygmy blue whale, B. m. brevicauda, with an adult length of about 24 meters. Blue whales travel from their feeding grounds in the Antarctic to the breeding grounds in the Banda Sea of Indonesia, covering a round trip of 10,000 kilometers. Along their route, they pass the coast of East Timor and traverse the narrow strait of Ombai/Wetar, which is only 25 kilometers wide. Apart from blue whales, there are over twenty other species of whales and dolphins, making it a significant hotspot for whale enthusiasts and researchers alike (a paradise!).
