Anus mundi (anus of the world) is a definition of Auschwitz used by the SS physician Heinz Thilo. Auschwitz I Stammlager, the main camp, the first, set up on the outskirts of Oswiecim (photo 1-5). Auschwitz II-Birkenau, built on the outskirts of the village of Brzezinka, the second part of the concentration camp and the major extermination camp of the Holocaust (photo 6-10). “Auschwitz poses numerous questions about humanity in a situation of programmatic dehumanization” (Piotr. M.A. Cywinsk, Director of Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum). We know what happened there, but we need to look inside.
