Antonio Porchia wrote: "When the stone is merely a stone, and the clouds are only clouds, I am unconscious." Concepts, categories, names are fictions we invent to serve as practical tools like knives and shovels, for orientation and survival. But they blind us to reality and diminishing our living. I believe that these images evade categorization more than do most, and I hope that they are living evidence that words like naturalism, surrealism, expressionism, abstraction are just vague gestures toward inseparable aspects of the one marvelous reality, and of certain irreducible artworks.
