"BOKETTO" is a Japanese word meaning 'the feeling of staring blankly into the distance, without thinking about anything in particular'. The work evokes a sense of peacefulness, as if surrendering to the natural environment. Multiple units of the same size and structure were created, using aluminium cut into geometric forms, despite representing the organic sea. The only source of power for this work is the natural wind that blows through the area where it is installed. Inspired by the calming sensation of feet immersed in the sea, the piece reflects this feeling in its scale.
Bio Yumeo Nakayama is a Tokyo-based artist making outdoor art works. A common theme in her work is the "feeling that we are living on the Earth." The characteristics of the motifs and other features extracted from her design perspective are what make up her works. By installing her works outdoors, she aims to create a peaceful space in that location. She hopes viewers “feel as if they are actually confronting animals and the natural environment." Her inspirations for her artwork come from her own personal experiences and include a deep respect for flora and fauna.
