The project visualizes my poem "to catch a storm," inspired by Miami's storms. In studio images, I wore black clothes and a mask against a black background, highlighting a single clay cloud. The setup symbolizes storm clouds blocking sunlight, with stark lighting representing the storm's transition. The final unmasked image contradicts the goal of erasure, embracing life's contradictions and reflecting the poem’s themes of resilience and struggle.

Bio
Yiorgos Michael was born in Cyprus and lives in the US. His work consists of photographic essays inspired by personal experiences and deal with themes like aging, identity, and social norms. These narratives fuse deliberately captured images with moments of serendipity, allowing unexpected elements to enhance the storytelling with surprise and discovery. This blend of intentional and spontaneous imagery juxtaposes the representational with the abstract, and the real with the mythical. The result is a tension between ambiguity and clarity, drawing viewers into engaging with the narrative.
