We've crafted a modern 'Kub-la-ae' lacquer hat, historically worn in wars. Considering lacquer's benefits—water protection, ventilation, UV prevention—and its storytelling engravings, we aimed to reimagine it for contemporary appeal. Collaborating with lacquer master Kiattisak Chaimuangchuen, we integrated 'kub-la-ae' into today's lifestyle hats, like visors or caps, resulting in contemporary lacquer headwear adorned with clean Lanna flowery patterns—a fusion of tradition and today's dynamic style.
Bio As COTH studio, our works are inspired by the local resources in our neighbourhood area in Thailand. We embrace primitive, prehistoric or authentic ancient crafts. We like the charm of rough-hewn aesthetic and imperfections of things. We usually collaborate with local craft communities in Thailand, to make works that keep the spirit of craftsmanship while bringing a sense of evolution and timelessness.
