Plant fiber lamp are made by layering many sheets of very thin Japanese paper called tengujo. Because many layers of washi of various colors are layered, so the colors of the inner washi paper are visible between the fibers of the outer washi paper, that’s why It looks like the colors are mixed together. Like other traditional crafts, Japanese paper production is decreasing, so I took on the challenge of creating a new expression that highlights the beauty of the original fibers of Japanese paper.
Bio I studied architecture and usually design architecture. I began using washi as a material for artwork and interior decorating because my grandmother used to make pictures by tearing washi and I realized the appeal of it.I repeat the simple process of tearing and pasting it, and my work ranges from the production of lighting, vases, and other products that take advantage of the thin and strong texture of washi, to table and wall decorations.I hope that the expressive washi paper lighting and vases will make someone's moment warm and fresh.
