Every 4 minutes, the wood for the construction of one building grows in the forests of Switzerland. This multi-family house made from wood contains 21 apartments to rent and one common room. It is situated in an urban area in Köniz, Berne. The apartments are characterized by bright, mixed-use spaces. The new construction is distinguished by its consistency, energy efficiency and ecological construction. A five-story timber construction has been erected on top of the concrete base and wood formwork characterizes the facade. The Minergie-P-ECO standard was achieved through the passive and active utilization of solar energy and a well-insulated building envelope. We see sustainability not as a stumbling block, but as a chance. It allows us to rethink our work, to see our design in a new way. «You don’t have to be able to predict the future, but try and be prepared for it.» Perikles, 500 a. Chr.
