The year 2015 was the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War.
The photographic project VEGLIA is inspired by this anniversary, based on a poem by the Italian poet Giuseppe Ungaretti who was a soldier on the Carso Mountains (Italy) during the conflict. On the night of December 23, 1915 he wrote the poem titled VEGLIA dedicated to his friend killed and denouncing the brutality of war.
The photographs depict details of the monument "MARTYRS OF RESISTANCE" placed in the town of Reggio Emilia(Italy)

this poetry:
Vigil

A whole night
thrown near
a comrade
massacred
with his mouth
snarling
towards the full moon
with the swelling
of his hands
penetrating
my silence
I wrote
letters full of love

I’ve never been
more
attached to life

Cima Quattro, 23-Dec-1915
