Drawing Indentity

Nostalgia, the word derived from the Greek, nostos, “to return home” and the suffix, algia, meaning “pain”. A return to the nostalgic, a global legacy, is pervasive in post-modern search for identity. The works enclosed are recent works that focus on issues of cultural identity by re examining and manipulating images of childhood experiences. These images are not nostalgic but juxtapose childhood naivety with realities of the 21st century. Many of the images are recognizable childhood experiences derived from old magazines, books and popular cultural magazines. The re-presentation of culturally familiar images is given to the viewer to challenge and critique traditional stereotypes of human identity
